I’m Dr. Lyane Trepanier, a clinical psychologist who specializes in emotion and motivation. My passion is helping people find the drive and resilience to thrive in all aspects of their lives. This blog is dedicated to helping students (and we are all lifetime students!), professionals, and anyone who has a desire, but struggles with the motivation and strategies to achieve it. I am here to explain why it’s challenging, and how to get beyond those challenges. My goal is to be an agent of change for courageous people who have decided they want a more empowered and fulfilled life. Kudos to you for wanting more, and searching for support to make it happen!
My Story
Like anyone, I am no stranger to intense feelings of doubt and lack of motivation. I had many moments of low confidence in my teens and twenties when I felt like all the mountains worth climbing would take too long, or were just too hard to climb. Yes, I did what seemed easiest, but not what my heart really wanted. That was my version of quitting. In my early thirties, I had had enough. I made a major career switch, leaving one promising career to go into a more uncertain one. You see, prior to becoming a psychologist, I worked in both large corporate and small business settings, primarily in sales in the banking and tech industries. It was wonderful, but it wasn’t what I really wanted to do. Instead, I had a strong desire to help people and organizations draw out their very best by working with people on a deeper level. With my fiancĂ©’s (now husband) encouragement, I went back to school. There, I obtained a Master’s degree in psychiatric research, working with neuroscientists to study the effects of stress on the mind and body, across the lifespan. It took me several years more to earn a PhD in Psychology, while raising children, taking care of aging parents, and working in the psychiatry departments of two major local hospitals. It took a long time to complete, and I wanted to quit more times than I could count.
Today, I am a wife, and mom of two teenagers. I understand the reality of competing demands of my most important relationships, while finding creative ways to carve out productive time to move personal and professional goals forward. I stuck with it, and I want you to stick with it too. These experiences have provided me with a real-world perspective on applied mental health strategies in both the personal and professional domains. I have dedicated myself to understanding how goal attainment works, and now I want to share my knowledge with you. My hope is that this blog provides you with tools you need and the boost you deserve.
Gratefully yours!
